Department of Biochemistry

Introduction

Biochemistry is the application of chemistry to the study of biological processes at the cellular and molecular level. It emerged as a distinct discipline around the beginning of the 20th century by combining chemistry, physiology and biology to investigate the principles of chemistry in living systems. The Government College Women University Faisalabad (GCWUF) was upgraded from college to university in 2013 and the Department of Biochemistry was developed at GCWUF in 2016. The department is offering academic programs which have been designed according to HEC guidelines to meet the needs of skillful researchers and scientists to serve in different sectors of education, health, agriculture and industry in the country. The department is providing quality education with highly qualified faculty members nearly all are holders of Doctorate Degrees with specializations in disciplines of Molecular, Clinical, Medicinal, Industrial and Enzyme Biochemistry. Currently, the Department is offering academic programs in discipline of i) Biochemistry ii) Biotechnology and iii) Medical Lab Technology (MLT) for the students at BS level. Morever, the Department is also offering academic programs in discipline of biochemistry at MS level. Efforts are underway to provide good teaching and research facilities in these disciplines with adequate laboratory and modem library facilities in stimulating environment. In recent age, Biochemistry has furnished with the learnings of cell biology, molecular biology, protein chemistry and computational biology to reveal the molecular mechanisms of fundamental biological processes. Biotechnology deals with the scientific manipulation of living organisms and biological processes to produce useful products for the benefits of human life. The discipline of medical laboratory technology provides the necessary skills and training to students for future specialization in clinical biochemistry. Currently, the department is also motivated for developing linkages with other academic and commercial organizations.

Vision

The vision of Department of Biochemistry is to contribute potentially in achieving the national and global goals of empowering women through academics and research.

Mission

Mission of the department is to educate the female students with learning of advanced skills and research techniques in the disciplines of Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Medical Laboratory Technology for achieving relevant SDGs. Provision of an environment conducive for academics and research is a priority of the department to meet the recent challenges in these disciplines, and to prepare the graduates for a successful carrier in these disciplines and related fields by imparting personality
development skills.

CMS Modules

Develop and maintain a highly effective, reliable, secure, and innovative Campus Management System (CMS) to support instructional, administrative, and research functions of the university. Under the CMS, the following modules are developed and implemented:

Online Admission System

This application is used for online admission both for undergraduate and graduate programs. Candidates can apply online and after merit lists are made, they visit the University for Fee Submission. All admission-related information is available on the university website.

Student Registration System

This application is used for student registration. After obtaining admission, all students are registered and student cards are issued through this application.

Student Record Management System

This computerized system is used for keeping all records about the students. Student basic data, previous academic records, present academic records, and other student-related records are managed under this application.

Fee Management System

This system is used for managing all semester-wise fee collections from the students. Computerized fee vouchers are issued to the students. The fee office collects fee collection data from the banks and compiles it for further processing.

Student Enrollment System

After fee submission, students enroll in their courses against a particular semester. This system keeps all records related to semester-wise enrollment.

Online Student Attendance System

After enrollment, a central computer-based timetable is prepared. Teachers are allocated different courses. Classes, courses, and teacher combinations are managed under this application. This application is used for online student attendance.

Online Award Lists Entry System

On the basis of enrollment and class formation by using this system, teachers can enter the award lists online. As soon as a teacher enters the award list, this result is displayed online under the student portal.

Examination Management System

Serves the controller of examinations office. All semester-wise results are prepared and notified. Different reports for all levels of management and students are prepared through this computer-based system. Declared ITS BS batch result within a short time.

Teacher & Course Evaluation

This application is developed for QEC, GCWUF. Students are provided with the opportunity of evaluating their courses and teachers online. Different reports are prepared for comprehensive analysis purposes.

Faculty Portal

The faculty portal provides authorized dynamic options to add new employees, edit employee profiles, view current staff rosters, and manage employee records with extensive details.

Departmental Webpage

Developed for each department to easily upload distinct material like introductions, vision, and mission statement details, academic program summaries, achievements, galleries, and daily dynamic activities updates.

Departmental Portal

Enables focal persons to manage course enrollments dynamically by section or teacher, authorize leaves, design schedules, assign dynamic slots to alternative departments, check scheme of study, and check employee payroll files.

Teacher Portal

The dedicated teacher portal contains real-time student attendance management features, direct online lecture sharing, and dynamic online assignment configuration panels.

Library Portal

Provides robust automated tools specifically allocated for generating faculty fee vouchers alongside maintaining systemic records of entire faculty collections.

Bank Portal

Equipped with full access points to monitor student voucher transaction logs, comprehensive automated tracking rows for fee records, and scroll data entry options.

Student Portal

Students securely log in using registration numbers and CNIC details to view customized fee structures, manage module selections, review attendance summaries, and verify results sheets or evaluation parameters.

Performa Portal

A dedicated structural portal crafted cleanly for HEC compliance processes, facilitating instant uploads for statutory Performa-2 and Performa-5 validation sets.

Intersection Facilities

Handles structured setup for standard intermediate level entries:

  • Online Admission Handling
  • Online Processing Fees Engine
  • Online Admission Fee Records
